UA recruiting target Kadeem Jack confirmed he will attend prep school next season instead of committing to Arizona or one of several other Division I schools.
Jack's cell phone sent a text message to the Star on Monday night saying "Kadeem Jack to South Kent," referring to the Connecticut-based prep school where UA forward Kevin Parrom spent a season after transferring from Bronx St. Raymond's.
The big man from New York's Rice High School was believed to have pulled out of the 2010 recruiting class last week when Rice coach Maurice Hicks told Zagsblog.com that he was headed to prep school instead of choosing a college. But Jack issued no comment until Monday.
Jack said he would consider UA next season, though the Wildcats will have one fewer scholarship then because of NCAA self-sanctions.
With still one more scholarship to offer this spring, the Wildcats have invited junior college post player Eloy Vargas in for an official recruiting visit this weekend. Vargas played in 2008-09 at Florida and at Miami Dade College last season.
Assistant coach leaves
UA basketball graduate assistant Luke Murray has been hired as an assistant coach at Wagner College of Staten Island, N.Y., new Seahawks head coach Dan Hurley said Monday.
Murray, the son of actor/comedian Bill Murray, did not have on-floor coaching duties at Arizona last season but has extensive traveling team experience in the Northeast and was an assistant coach at Division II Post University of Connecticut in 2008-09.
Murray has also interned at Qunnipiac, a competitor of Wagner in the Northeast Conference.
"Luke Murray is a great addition to our staff," Hurley said in a statement. "I think he's a rising star in the profession who has experience in the Northeast Conference and brings strong recruiting ties in the area."
