The Arizona Wildcats like to have their jersey numbers assigned in the early spring. It makes ordering uniforms and other gear a bit easier.
Adding four players and losing two more since April, however, made that impossible for Sean Miller's team.
The UA's late additions - Xavier transfer Mark Lyons; walk-on Jacob Hazzard; and two players who will redshirt next year, Duquesne guard T.J. McConnell and Cochise College's Matt Korcheck - have since picked their jersey numbers.
Hazzard, because of his walk-on status, will wear No. 50; Miller typically likes his players not on scholarship to pick from 50-55.
Some of the UA's seven newcomers have a lot to live up to, numbers-wise.
Others, like No. 1 Gabe York, might already be the best UA players to wear his number.
Here's a look at the new players, and their new numbers, in historical context:
Freshman guard Gabe York
The number: 1
Who's worn it: Three other players
Most recently: Kyryl Natyazhko, from 2009 to 2011, before changing to No. 14 for his final season
Who wore it best: Leon Wood, who averaged 4.4 points and started seven games for the UA in 1979-80
Number by the numbers: 1 - Time the number was issued before 2008. Coach Lute Olson was not fond of players wearing low numbers.
Senior guard Mark Lyons
The number: 2
Who's worn it: Five others
Most recently: Daniel Bejarano, from 2010 to 2011
Who wore it best: Michael Wright (2000-01) and Isaiah Fox (2002-06) ensured No. 2 was well represented for years.

Redshirting junior guard T.J. McConnell
The number: 4
Who's worn it: 12 others

Number by the numbers: 14 of 15 - Wearing No. 21, Brian Williams - the future Bison Dele - made all but one field goal attempt in the UA's 1991 game at UCLA.
Redshirting junior forward Matt Korcheck
The number: 31
Who's worn it: 12 others
Most recently: Jason Terry, from 1995 to 1999
Who wore it best: Terry is the easy answer, but from 1946-48, UA legend Fred W. Enke donned No. 31. Enke might be the greatest all-around athlete in school history, having lettered in baseball, basketball and football and later playing professionally for the Lions, Eagles and Colts.

Freshman forward Grant Jerrett

Who wore it best: From 1986 to 1990, Jud Buechler scored 1,144 points, now No. 35 in UA history.
