When asked what it’s like to come off the bench as a senior, Kevin Parrom peered over a nearby Arizona Wildcats stat sheet.
“Let me read the average,” Parrom said Tuesday of his playing time. “I really don’t look into it. I’m looking into it now because you’re making me look.”
Parrom discovered that the minutes’ column next to his name read “21.5” — essentially a starter’s minutes.
Then there was a set of two numbers at the top of the team stat sheet.
Those are the ones Parrom says he cares about the most.
“We’re 12-0, so I have nothing to complain about,” he said. “I’m in the game when it counts. I could care less about starting, as long as I’m in when it counts. As long as I’m contributing that’s all that matters.”
There’s no doubt Parrom is contributing. While the ubiquitous Nick Johnson, box score-filler Solomon Hill and pressure shooter Mark Lyons have received most of the attention during the No. 3 Wildcats’ 12-0 nonconference run, Parrom leads the Wildcats in three-point percentage (47.1), is the team’s fourth-leading rebounder (4.9) at 6 feet 6 inches and has the team’s best assists-turnover ratio (1.7-to-1).
Moreover, as Parrom wishes, he’s in the game when it counts. He was on the floor for the final minutes of the Wildcats’ one-point wins over Florida and San Diego State, making a difference both times.
