Call it Black Friday.

Two of the most dangerous players in the Pac-12 learned they won't play again this season — bad news for UCLA and Arizona State, respectively, though probably encouraging for teams, like Arizona, chasing the Pac-12's few NCAA tournament bids.

Forward Reeves Nelson, the Pac-12's leading returning scorer who was supposed to be the centerpiece of this year's UCLA team, was kicked off the squad today.

Earlier this week, Nelson, the Bruins' leading scorer and rebounder, was suspended for the second time this year. He had been benched Saturday by coach Ben Howland, only to be spotted laughing during the team's loss against Texas.

Earlier today, Jahii Carson, perhaps Arizona State's best recruit since James Harden, if not better, was declared ineligible.

Carson, from Mesa High School, had been attending ASU but awaiting final word from the NCAA Clearinghouse since before the season began.

He will be able to practice with the Sun Devils, but not play, this year. He will be a sophomore next season, but can earn back a year of eligibility with academic achievement.
