LAS VEGAS — The Pac-12 tournament crowned its own Cinderella tonight, as No. 10-seeded Utah advanced to the event’s semifinals with a 79-69 overtime win against Cal at MGM Grand Garden Arena.
The Utes couldn’t have made it any more dramatic at the end of regulation.
With 18 seconds to play and trailing by three, Utah forward Jordan Loveridge was fouled while shooting a three-pointer. He made the first two shots but, after a freezing timeout by Golden Bears (20-11) coach Mike Montgomery, missed the third.
Pac-12 Player of the Year Allen Crabbe got the rebound and was fouled, making two free throws to give the team its three-point lead back.
Then Jarred DuBois made the shot of the tournament — a three-pointer, over the hands of someone much taller than the Utah guard, with four seconds to play.
The Utes outscored Cal, 201-10, in overtime, led by eight points apiece from Loveridge and Washburn.
The 15-17 Utes will play the winner of tonight’s Oregon-Washington game on Friday at 8:30 p.m.
