• Nationals 6, Cardinals 4: In St. Louis, Washington cut its magic number for the NL East title to one on Kurt Suzuki's two-run double in the 10th inning. The Nationals also got a grand slam from Michael Morse in the first after umpires reviewed it on replay. Morse, who had not run the bases, went back to the plate and mimicked his swing before rounding the bases.
• Padres 7, Giants 3: In San Diego, Chase Headley hit his 30th home run and had three RBIs to tie Ryan Braun for the NL lead with 112 as the Padres beat the NL West champions.
• Brewers 9, Astros 5: In Milwaukee, Marco Estrada struck out 11 in eight shutout innings, Corey Hart homered twice and Milwaukee beat Houston to keep its slim playoff hopes alive.
• Braves 2, Mets 0: In Atlanta, Mike Minor pitched 6 1/3 sharp innings to win his fifth straight decision, Martin Prado and Jason Heyward each had an RBI and the Braves beat the Mets.
• Pirates 2, Reds 1: In Pittsburgh, Andrew McCutchen homered off Jonathan Broxton with one out in the ninth, as the Pirates (77-81) try to avert a record 20th straight losing season.
• Phillies 9, Marlins 5: In Miami, Roy Halladay survived a shaky opening inning, Jimmy Rollins had three hits and scored three times, and the Phillies beat the Marlins.
