Tucson starter Bear Bay limited host Fresno to seven hits over seven innings, but the Padres' bats failed to come through in the clutch in a 5-3 loss Saturday night.

The Padres took a 1-0 lead in the fourth only to watch the Grizzlies score two in the bottom of the inning to take the lead for good in the opener of their five-game series.

Fresno added a run in the fifth and two more in the eighth.

Tucson's bid to rally fell short in the ninth. The Padres scored twice and had the bases loaded before Daniel Robertson grounded out to end the game.
