Zack Greinke will pitch on Wednesday.

Whether he does it against the Washington Nationals at Dodger Stadium or the San Jose Giants in Rancho Cucamonga, where the Dodgers' Single-A team plays, remains to be seen.

Greinke signed a six-year, $147 million contract with the Dodgers in the offseason but has been on the disabled list since April 12, the day after he broke his clavicle in a fight with San Diego Padres outfielder Carlos Quentin.

He made a rehab start Friday and came out of a weekend bullpen session in good shape. Some concerns remain, however.

"We know he's going to pitch on Wednesday, we're just not sure where," Dodger manager Don Mattingly said. "We don't want to wait too long but we want to make sure everybody's on the same page. We want to get Ned's (general manager Ned Colletti) input, the doc's input, the trainer's input, Zack's. We're kind of putting together, if he's going to be able to pitch, what we don't want him doing and what we want to do. We just haven't got all that together so we're not ready to say `Yes, we're going forward.'"

If Greinke is going to be activated from the disabled list Wednesday, the Dodgers want him to stick around. They realize there is a risk so they might have to compile a list of dos and don'ts.

"I think his arm strength is going to be good enough," Mattingly said. "It's just the little worries about covering first, running into somebody, hitting and sliding, covering home plate and blocking home plate, diving for a bunt; a lot of little things can happen where he lands on his shoulder."

Greinke started two games for the Dodgers this season, going 1-0 with a 1.59 ERA.

If he's not ready to start for the Dodgers, rookie Matt Magill will take his place.
