Pinch hitter Tyler Krause hit a one-out double in the 14th inning Tuesday night to score Scott Kingery, and the Arizona Wildcats beat Utah Valley 8-7 at Hi Corbett Field.
After two innings, Arizona trailed 6-0, but eventually the Cats tied the game at 7 and sent the game to extra innings.
Kingery gave the loyal remaining fans some hope in the bottom of the 12th inning when he hit a two-out triple to center field. Casey Bowman followed with a fly out to center to send the game to the 13th inning.
Arizona threatened again in the 13th. Riley Moore hit a one-out single and stole second but was stranded there.
The Wildcats battled back from a six-run deficit after two innings to tie the game at 7 in the seventh.
The Wildcats scored two in the fifth, three in the sixth and two in the seventh. Zach Gibbons had a hand in scoring in each inning.
Gibbons led off the fifth with a single and later scored on a two-run single by Jordan Berger. In the sixth, Gibbons followed a Trent Gilbert lead-off single with another single and again scored later on a two-run single, this time by Bobby Dalbec.
In the seventh, Gibbons tied the game at 7 with a sacrifice fly to left.
The Cats threatened in the 10th. Gibbons, again, was in the mix. He led off the inning by being hit by a pitch. Kingery sacrificed Gibbons to second, and Dalbec was intentionally walked.
With runners at first and second and one out, Cody Ramer flied out, and Kenny Meimerstorf grounded out to end the threat.
A one-out single by Sean Moysh in the first put Utah Valley on the board. Two batters later, Mark Krueger singled to put UVU up 2-0.
In the second, Utah Valley scored on a Greyson Bogden single, a Moysh sacrifice fly and a two-run triple by Craig Brinkerhoff.
