The Arizona Diamondbacks will honor the 2012 College World Series Champion Arizona Wildcats before Saturday night's game.
UA coach Andy Lopez is scheduled to throw out the first pitch before the 5:10 p.m. start against San Diego; he and athletic director Greg Byrne will bring the NCAA championship trophy onto the Chase Field turf before the game.
The pregame toss is a first for Lopez, who's planning to warm up before heading to Phoenix Saturday.
"I haven't thrown since June," he said.
Arizona won its first CWS title since 1986 in August, steamrolling through the Omaha, Neb. field without losing a single game. The championship was the second of Lopez's career; he won while at Pepperdine in 1992.
Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers will perform on the field after the game. For more details, visit the D-backs' website.
Lopez is the second UA coach to throw out the first pitch at a D-backs game this season. Football coach Rich Rodriguez, along with Arizona State's Todd Graham, did the honors before the team's season opener in April.
