Arizona Wildcats shortstop Alex Mejia signed with the St. Louis Cardinals today, officially ending his college career after three seasons. The reigning Pac-12 Player of the Year and All-American received $250,000, according to a report in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

The Cardinals selected Mejia, a junior from Sylmar, Calif., with their fourth-round pick in last month's draft. The contact terms were slightly above the recommended slot for someone taken in Mejia's round.

Mejia is the second UA standout to sign in the last three days. The Reds signed third baseman Seth Mejias-Brean, their eighth-round pick, for a reported $125,000. College World Series MVP Robert Refnsyder (fifth round, Yankees), pitcher Kurt Heyer (sixth round, Cardinals) and outfielder Joey Rickard (ninth round, Rays) are all expected to sign shortly.

Players who don't agree to terms can opt to return to school for their senior seasons.
