In this year leading up to Arizona's centennial, Feb. 14, 2012, we'll reprint a story or excerpts each day from the Arizona Daily Star or Tucson Citizen archives.

Dec. 5, 1912

"Pima county is one of the healthiest counties in the state," said County Superintendent of Health Dr. George D. Troutman yesterday. "During the past months this county has been practically free from any serious contagious disease."

In going over the reports for the month of November Dr. Troutman found that there had been 35 deaths and 20 births. The cause of death in twenty-two cases was from pulmonary trouble, all being people from other sections of the country who had come to Tucson for their health. There were three deaths from accidents.
