John H. Tait, general manager Montezuma Oil company, was in the city yesterday, having just arrived from the property of the company 45 miles north of Sentinel, near Agua Caliente Springs, in Maricopa county, and has been in conference nearly all day with Francis M. Hartman, legal adviser and treasurer of the company. Mr. Tait returned recently from New York City, having been called there by New York capitalists, who are heavily interested in the enterprise.
Mr. Tait reports that a part of the machinery and equipment of the Standard drilling outfit is already on the ground and that he is rushing the balance as fast as possible, to get it across the Gila river before the rise which generally comes in the early spring.
All the machinery has been shipped and will be ready to set up when put on the ground, and drilling is expected to commence within the next thirty days.
With the Standard Ideal outfit that the company has purchased, after due deliberation and observation of experience of other companies, it will be enabled to go down three thousand feet, or deeper, if necessary, and Mr. Tait feels confident that oil will be encountered at a much less depth.
