W.C. Bentley, said to have come to this region as a strike breaker, finds himself facing the charge of impersonating an officer.
On Monday afternoon he took Calaistro Bacon into custody. The latter offered no resistance and went quietly along, conscious of the reeking rectitude of his own conduct and certain that nothing could happen to him.
Moreover, he had a sneaking suspicion that the stranger who had arrested him was acting without authority. So, he went quietly along until the pair met Deputy Huss, whom Bacon knew and who stopped him and asked for information as to the status of his captor.
Bacon related his experience and officer Huss took charge of false officer Bentley. Bentley's bail was fixed at $100 by Justice Dufton. He furnished it.
Thomas Kidden, a companion of Bentley, was taken into custody on the charge of carrying concealed weapons.
