GLOBE - As soon as he assumes office, Governor Hunt stated tonight, it is said, that he would appoint a man as warden of the prison at Florence, who would give the convicts "Christian treatment."
"Criminals are the product of environment, and for that they are not responsible. I will take down the usual sign, 'all ye who enter here leave hope behind,' and replace it with 'within there is peace and hope,' so that when unfortunates leave the prison they will not do so believing they are going into the world where there is neither hope nor peace."
