Leading up to Arizona's centennial, Feb. 14, we'll reprint a story or excerpts each day from the Arizona Daily Star or Tucson Citizen archives.

Jan. 30, 1912

Eliseo Arviso, a 12-year-old Mexican boy, was arrested yesterday by Patrolman Ybarra on a charge of stealing a bicycle from Manuel Grijalva.

The boy after securing the bicycle took off the wheels and tires and sold them to another boy. After being arrested, he admitted that he had taken the wheels and informed the officer to whom he had sold the tires.

On being closely questioned by Chief Arnold, the boy admitted that he is the head of a gang of youthful thieves who have been stealing bicycles and committing other depredations for several months past.

An effort will be made to have him committed to the reform school, as he is considered by the officers to be an incorrigible.
