In leading up to Arizona's centennial, Feb. 14, 2012, we'll reprint a story or excerpts each day from the Arizona Daily Star or Tucson Citizen archives.

Jan. 2, 1912

Sunday, after an exciting chase, a Chinaman was captured trying to enter the United States without first obtaining papers. The word came in that he was traveling toward Tucson through the brush, and Inspector in Charge Burnett sent a couple of local inspectors to head him off. He was too fast a traveler and got by them. About fifteen miles out of Tucson, he boarded a train and came to the city. He was caught at the depot by Inspector Hain and lodged in the immigration service quarters.

The fleet-footed Celestial will be given a chance to show cause why he should not be deported within a short time.
