Rick Pitino
• Age: 56
• Head coach: Louisville (2001-present); 22nd season overall as head coach
• Salary: $2.3 million
• He's hot because: The Cardinals moved to 12-3 after Monday's overtime victory over Notre Dame. Louisville won a 61-60 thriller at Villanova on Saturday, prompting Pitino to remark about the unusually strong Big East competition. "I'm getting the hell out of here after this year, I'm telling you that," he said after the game. His Cardinals are among the Big East's toughest teams, though: They have won more conference road games (15) than any other Big East team in the past three seasons. The Villanova win moved Louisville to No. 20 in The Associated Press Top 25. Louisville has kept opponents to just 38 percent field goal shooting and blocked an average of 6.6 shots a game.
• Why he'd be a good fit at the UA: Pitino is the only coach in NCAA history to have taken three programs to the Final Four (Providence, Kentucky and Louisville). He won the 1996 NCAA title and lost to Arizona in the 1997 national title game. His winning percentage of .733, achieved mostly while in the SEC and Big East, ranks him 11th among active coaches. Pitino has said he won't leave Louisville as long as Tom Jurich, a former NAU athletic director, is the AD there. But although Pitino may have been joking about leaving the Big East, he probably would find the Pac-10 competition a little more palatable.
