Jamie Dixon
• Age: 43
• Current job: Pittsburgh coach (2003-present); sixth year.
• Salary: Not disclosed (estimated $1.6 million)
• He's hot because: The Panthers were named the No. 1 team in both major polls Monday for the first time in school history. Pitt has a 14-0 record against the nation's 73rd-ranked schedule, and has won by an average of 19.4 points. The Panthers do it with rebounding and defense: Pitt out-rebounds opponents by an average of 10.9 a game, averages eight steals and is holding teams to an average of 36.5 percent shooting from the field.
• Why he'd be a good fit at UA: Dixon has West Coast and Arizona ties, and he's a Los Angeles native who worked under UCLA coach Ben Howland at NAU and Pitt. Under Dixon, Pitt has won 20 games or more for five straight years and reached five straight NCAA tournaments. Dixon won't be easily lured away, however. Pitt gave him a three-year contract extension (through 2016) in September, and an undisclosed raise over the $1.3 million he earned last season. He had already been bumped up from $600,000 after Arizona State and Missouri showed interest in him following the 2005-06 season.
