Think you have a lot of cooking today?
You could be feeding James Tretheway.
Tretheway, the Arizona Wildcats' starting right tackle, stands 6 feet 6 inches and weighs 305 pounds.
He has an appetite to match.
Asked this week for his favorite Thanksgiving moments, Tretheway recalled how he once ate "maybe half a turkey."
"You know how it is — over the course of the day, you start eating at 3 or 4, and then by 6, you're hungry again," he said. "You've got to go with the classics. White meat, stuffing, all that — and sandwiches the next day."
Tretheway and many of his UA teammates will celebrate Thanksgiving in Tucson, shunning the hassle and cost of travel in favor of a few relaxing days at home. The Wildcats will return to practice Saturday in preparation for a Dec. 6 game against ASU.
Today, though, they'll focus on food, family — and a little bit of football.
Mike Diaz will spend the holiday with an aunt who lives in Tucson. His father, José, is flying in to eat with them.
"We're going to watch a couple games and just catch up," he said.
At 6 feet 5 inches and an eye-popping 340 pounds, the Wildcats' starting left guard is one of the team's biggest eaters.
He will eat all the Thanksgiving basics — turkey, stuffing and mashed potatoes — in moderation.
Dessert is a different thing altogether.
"My main thing is cheesecake — big piles of cheesecake," he said.
The big eating isn't limited to linemen.
Senior wide receiver Mike Thomas will spend Thanksgiving at the home of UA assistant coach Mike Smith. Thomas' eyes lit up when talking about the menu.
"I like Cajun turkey, pie, dressing, macaroni and cheese, rice-and-cheese casserole and all that," he said. "I can put it down."
The Wildcats all have different backgrounds and culinary histories, but they seem to agree on one thing: Cranberry sauce isn't for them.
"We've got to keep up our figures," Tretheway cracked.
