For those possible chilly days and certain chilly nights ahead, we need coats — even in the desert. So why not don the season's hottest trends?
We thought it was time to take a look at some of the styles and colors in outerwear that will have you begging for a frosty day.
Red
Red is the hottest color of the season, and what better way to wear it than with a gorgeous jacket? Whether you opt for a short burgundy peacoat with oversize buttons or a candy-apple knee-length trench, a coat in this color is sure to become a classic.
Winter White
A pretty winter-white coat is like a breath of fresh air. This crisp color looks best kept simple — on structured trench styles with classically clean lines. Find one with interesting details such as silver metallic buttons or a bold-colored silk lining.
Leather
Nothing combines biker cool with classic urban chic better than a leather jacket this season. Thrown over a dress and tights or paired with skinny jeans and boots, leather is as versatile as it is stylish. We love the variety of details — everything from brass buttons to zippers. Look for Amelia Earhart-inspired leather bomber jackets to be big this fall.
Faux fur
Faux fur hit the runways in full force last spring and is on everything from boots to sweaters. But this season we are falling for the faux-fur jackets that seem to be on display just about everywhere. Whether you prefer a more subtle approach, such as fur trim, or love the idea of a jacket covered in fur, you will look fashion-forward every time you step outside.
Prints and patterns
From plaids to houndstooth, patterns are a fantastic way to have fun with your style this season. A coat is a great place to introduce some color in your wardrobe, too — step out of your comfort zone and go with a pretty plum shade, for example. A figure-flattering tip: If you're going for a bold pattern or print, choose a shorter jacket (like a peacoat) to keep the look from swallowing you.
