Whether you're a tween just learning the ropes or someone with enough makeup to fill a footlocker, "Jemma Kidd Make-up Masterclass" (St. Martin's Press, $24.99) is a useful how-to book.
Kidd is a renowned makeup artist who has different product lines that are sold everywhere from Neiman Marcus to Target. She puts together a glossy, oversized book that's pretty to look at, but also has useful info on handling skin, no matter what category it falls into, as well as useful tips on dealing with skin conditions, the best way to cleanse and age-appropriate makeup.
She tackles how to deal with specific facial features as well as how to create certain looks. It's fun to flip through the many, many photos that detail out-there looks (full-on glitter eyeshadow) to basic, everyday faces. The step-by-step instructions have enough photos and directions that even a novice could duplicate a face, even though Kidd doesn't mention specific makeup lines or products. In the back, she spills which product lines are her favorites and offers a resource list.
