His passion is nature photography

Tucson, Arizona | Published: 11.23.2008
Stephen Alden has had a long, evolving love affair with photography. He says he got serious about photography in the '60s. He had his own darkroom on and off until the '90s.
"I worked almost exclusively in black and white," he said. "I like black and white. It's kind of what I was raised on."
As technology changed, so changed Alden, a radiology technologist at University Medical Center.
"I abandoned film photography about four or five years ago," he said, as digital photography "got serious."
"The digital darkroom works for me," he said.
Alden and his wife, Kelly, head out a couple of weekends each month, often to the Patagonia-Sonoita Creek Preserve.
"I'm particularly fond of Patagonia," he said.
"I love shooting macros. I do a lot of scenics. I just love nature photography."
Name: Stephen Alden.
Age: 60.
Occupation: "Quality coordinator for the radiology department of a local hospital. For the past 28 years I have worked as a radiology technologist in Interventional Radiology. I intend to devote all of my time to photography and traveling when I retire in several years."
Camera: "I started getting serious with photography when I purchased a classic Nikon F in 1966. Over the years I have remained loyal to Nikon cameras and lenses, shooting both black and white, which I processed and printed myself, as well as color transparency.
"When digital imaging exploded and fine equipment became available, I switched to Nikon digital SLR equipment and the digital darkroom. I have thousands of negatives and chromes that I am slowly scanning into digital. I currently shoot with a Nikon D200 and a wide variety of old and new Nikon lenses."
