He keeps camera close

Tucson, Arizona | Published: 07.13.2008
Tommy Peck is a man on the move, but he doesn't let his hobby suffer.
As he travels the nation's highways, his camera is always on his dashboard, ready to capture the fleeting views from the cab of his tractor-trailer.
After three weeks away, he is treated to three days at home. But he doesn't put down his camera. Instead, the self-taught photographer and painter continues to seek out images.
The result is more great photos featuring his dogs, his paintings and the landscapes of Cochise County.
Name: Tommy Peck.
Age: 55.
Occupation: Over-the-road truck driver.
Photography experience: "It seems like I've always had a camera close at hand since high school, though I never really took many pictures because I could never justify the cost of film and processing. Things changed, though, when I bought my first computer and an Olympus digital camera in 2000 and found that I could simply upload everything to the computer and delete the bulk of the pictures that I took."
Cameras: Canon Rebel XT, Canon Power Shot S2 IS, Olympus D-490.
Favorite subject to photograph: Landscapes.
Favorite photo: "I like pictures that are high in contrast or loaded with color."
