Educational foundation presents awards
A sold-out crowd of more than 670 attended the Educational Enrichment Foundation's eighth annual Ray Davies Lifetime Humanitarian Achievement Award Luncheon on Oct. 11.
Honorees at the event, held at the Doubletree Hotel at Reid Park, were Helaine Levy, Joan B. Diamond and the Tucson Conquistadores. Special recognition went to Eileen Starr and the late M. Lee Starr.
The honorees were recognized for their commitment to public education in Tucson, their community service and support for the Educational Enrichment Foundation.
Dave Sitton served as master of ceremonies. Entertainment was provided by Mariachi Las Aguilitas de Davis, directed by Alfred and Jaime Valenzuela.
Guests who attended the event were Tucson Unified School District Superintendent Roger Pfeuffer and businessmen Paul Baker, Fred Fruchthendler, Jack Gibson, and John Bremond.
The event raised about $100,000 for the foundation.
Benefit raises $6,600 for junior golf group
More than 124 golfers took to the greens Aug. 25 in support of Southern Arizona Junior Golf Association.
The Pines Classic, held at the Pines Golf Club at Marana, raised about $6,600 to support the association's end-of-the-year awards banquet.
The day's events included golf, a buffet lunch and a raffle. Contributors of raffle items included Eegees, Fleming's Prime Steakhouse and Wine Bar and La Jolla Diamonds & Gems.
This year's winning foursome, Joan Booth, Rose Nehring, Bill Lindeman and son Bill Lindeman Jr., posted a 54 to win the 18-hole shotgun scramble.
Don Parkhurst, Kurt Liobl, Klark Hall, Brandon Janous and Bernie Eaton were just a few of the participants who came out for the event.
Fashion fundraiser aids women and children
The third annual Fabulous Fall Fashion Fling fundraiser on Oct. 17 at the Adobe Rose Inn attracted more than 40 women. 
Hosted by Marion and Jim Hook, owners of the Adobe Rose, the event raised more than $1,000 to benefit the Brewster Center's shelter and advocacy services for women and their children.
The fashion preview featured casual, evening and business attire from Linden Elwood's Classic Findz consignment shop and hairstyles by Dolly Quinn of Dolly Quinn Salon Spa. 
Many of the women in attendance are members of the National Association of Women Business Owners.
Donations from Sherry Elliott of Cooking Sherry included a chocolate fountain for the festivities.
Models included Stephina Brewer and Jennifer Cortum, along with Marianela Camacho, Andrea Ibanez, Stephanie Parker, Brie Tomaski and Sue Wahl.
Among the guests were Diane Berndt, Rosemary Beck, Ingrid Jordan, Destiny Thompson, Sharon Harn, Denise Flynn, Judy Weber, Leslie Evans, Lola Kakes, Olivia McNally and Virginia Light.
Dinner-auction nets $45,000 for Scouting
The fourth annual Spurs & Stars dinner and auction, sponsored by the Catalina Council, Boy Scouts of America, drew nearly 150 people on Oct. 7.
Held at the Beaudry RV Resort, the event raised more than $45,000 to deliver the Scouting program to at-risk youth throughout Southern Arizona.
During the event, a special presentation was made to the Anderson and Ruboyianes families — they received the Scouting Family Spirit Awards for their service and a commitment to scouting family values.  
Among the attendees were Ellen and Dennis Kirton, David and Sandra Gibeault and Tom and Barbara Kiernan.
