OMAHA, Neb. - Clark Burckle's Road to London began when he was 6, a kid swimmer in Louisville who was so into the sport that he would watch old tapes of old Olympic swimmers, memorize their times, mannerisms and warm-up routines.

I began this odyssey to the U.S. Olympic swimming trials 12 years ago, in Indianapolis, continued to Long Beach in 2004 and moved on to steamy downtown Omaha in 2008 and again this year.

OMAHA, Neb. — The odds of making the U.S. Olympic swimming team are somewhere between distant and remote. Of the 1,849 swimmers here this week, about 46 will be in London for the 2012 Olympics. Maybe as few as 42.
