Three months ago, Brandon Willard was spending almost all his time on the football field as Amphitheater's first-year coach.
Willcox 55, Tanque Verde 13
At Tanque Verde, the physical play of Willcox (4-1) proved too much for the smaller Hawks (0-5) .
Rincon/University 21, Santa Rita 14
At Santa Rita, senior running back Kevionte Alexander scored on a a 19-yard run with about 1:30 remaining in the game to lift the Rangers to a road victory.
Sabino 63, Catalina 3
At Catalina, the Sabercats (5-0) turned in another dominating effort, scoring five touchdowns on offense, three on defense and one on special teams against the Trojans (2-3). Sabino led 49-3 at halftime.
Nogales 50, Palo Verde 0
At Nogales, the Apaches (5-0) jumped to a 22-0 lead after the first quarter and never looked back. Brian McCarty and Alan Garcia combined for 213 rushing yards and each had two rushing TDs. Nogales earned its third shutout of the season, holding the Titans (1-4) to 70 total yards.

At Foothills, the Falcons (0-5) started their homecoming game with a 6-0 lead off a Ty Cruz 21-yard TD run, but Laramie Brown answered with two TD passes in the second quarter to give the Cougars (4-1) a lead they never lost.
Pusch Ridge Christian 27, Bisbee 13
At Pusch Ridge, the Lions (2-3) overcame three third-quarter fumbles and an overall sloppy game offensively to beat the Pumas. Pusch Ridge running back Taylor Fitzgerald accounted for 185 of the team's 335 total yards, adding both receiving and rushing touchdowns.
Salpointe Catholic 52, Marana 6
At Marana, Salpointe (4-1) turned in a balanced offensive performance in its win over the Tigers (0-5). After the Lancers took a 7-0 lead on their first drive, Salpointe's Jake Noonan intercepted a pass to set up a TD catch and a 14-0 lead.
Ironwood Ridge 35, Marcos de Niza 27: Nighthawks pass big test with fast start, a late stop
TEMPE - Ironwood Ridge had been largely untested heading into Friday's game at Tempe Marcos de Niza.
Sahuarita 56, Flowing Wells 9
At Sahuarita, Aric Howard and Chris Snodgrass combined for 356 yards of total offense and the Mustangs rolled in their season opener.
