The Magma Mine in Superior was the first underground mine in North America to be air- conditioned, in 1937.
This undated image shows the town and mine at Ruby. Ruby's lake originally served as a mill pond; the mill, hoist and mine pad are at right. The Spanish first prospected the area, and the rich Montana vein was discovered in the 1870s.
Mine engineer Walter S. Pfrimmer, with daughter Tallia, in Ruby in 1933 or 1934. Pfrimmer started working at the mine in 1926.
