McKale Center: UA a step closer to expansion
McKale Center's proposed $80 million renovation could expand the Arizona Wildcats' arena outward, improving locker rooms, academic areas, seating, restroom and concession areas, UA athletic director Greg Byrne said Thursday.

When it was completed 39 years ago, delays had pushed the cost of McKale Center from $2 million to $8 million. Construction began in January 1971, and the Wildcats played their first game there on Feb. 1, 1973.

McKale Center's renovation will take its first formal step next week, when the UA athletic department asks the Arizona Board of Regents to allow it to begin looking for an architect.
