A Tucson company has moved a step closer to launching its first cancer-prevention drug with a late-stage clinical trial.
Caleb Sutherland, a student in cancer biology doctoral program, works in a lab at Bio5's Thomas W. Keating Bioresearch Building on the University of Arizona campus. Bio5 is a collaborative research center that integrates five disciplines.
The region's private biosciences employment, such as Sanofi in Oro Valley, has grown 41 percent over eight years.
Ten years after Arizona launched a major initiative to become a leader in the biosciences, the state is still a small player compared with bio bastions like California and Massachusetts.
