Mike Hammond was still polishing his jokes about why his glasses were missing a lens and Keri Silvyn hadn’t quite finished her first cup of coffee when they were both surprised with one of Tucson’s most prestigious leadership awards.
Rick Myers is alerted to his selection as Man of the Year just outside the BIO5 Institute at the University of Arizona. Suzanne McFarlin, executive director of Greater Tucson Leadership, notified Myers, who is currently chairman of the Arizona Board of Regents.
Summing up quickly what Rick Myers, Colleen Niccum and Tom Chandler have done for the community would be difficult. In fact, a whole evening could be spent honoring and thanking this trio, who are the recipients of this year's Greater Tucson Leadership awards for service.
Under new leadership, the Tucson Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce piled up a "big plate" of initiatives in the past year, from an array of new small-business programs to the recent establishment of a "super PAC" to boost political advocacy.
