As the government health-care website chugs along, the Obama administration has initiated a counter-initiative to combat Republican naysaying — and its weapons are of superior grade.

WASHINGTON — More than 1.1 million Arizonans who depend on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program — better known as food stamps — will see their benefits reduced today in a long-planned national cut.
PHOENIX — Facing pressure by community groups and criticism from legislative Democrats, Gov. Jan Brewer agreed late Monday to have a state agency shuffle around $650,000 in its budget to cover welfare payments for 3,200 needy families through the end of the month.
Fall brings several benchmarks: the pumpkin farm, my annual baking imperative, the inevitable hopeful excursion into nature that ends with sunburn and the realization that it really is still hot, even though we wish it weren’t so.
Kids have to eat before they can learn. It’s just common sense; cognition is a function of nutrition. The good news is we have the food programs to end childhood hunger, allowing them to more easily learn to read, write and do arithmetic that are keys to breaking out of poverty.
Can I tell you a real success story? One we should all be proud of? Great, here goes: The program formerly known as food stamps has kept hunger from exploding along with the number of Americans living in poverty.
