Driverless cars could be on Arizona roads this year, if Capitol gives green light
PHOENIX - If it sometimes seems like no one is driving that car in front of you that's weaving in and out of traffic, you could soon be right.

Google's driverless vehicle has technologies ranging from GPS to LIDAR - light-detecting and ranging - which uses a rotating mirror atop the vehicle to get a three-dimensional image of what is around it.
Automakers tout driverless cars, smart safety features
A Lexus SL 600 Integrated Safety driverless research vehicle is on display at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Sensors and cameras attached to the vehicle can "observe" what is around the car.

LAS VEGAS - During a frustrating rush-hour jam, drivers of an experimental car from Audi will be able to take their hands off the wheel, lift their feet from the pedals and focus on things other than the road, such as a movie or a newspaper. The car will take care of the driving.
