Souleymane Barry, center, spends the morning at his east side apartment home with his children Samira, right, 11, and Umar, 5, before he leaves for work in the afternoon as a nurse at Kindred Hospital on Tuesday, July 9. In the summer, they'll spend time after breakfast reading books, while Souleyman reads the news. Barry and his wife emigrated from Africa nearly five years ago and aside from government healthcare assistance, have insisted on working, saving money and creating prosperous lives for themselves.
