Avoid Contaminants! Keeping your well secure can save you a hefty re-investment back into your well in the future. Make sure the cap is tight, and has no cracks in it. If you have children, or they are around, you might catch them dropping things down the well, and that could get really expensive! Do not keep any potential contaminants near your well or up-gradient of your well. Consider having a cap installed to help keep the bugs out.
Disinfect! As a regular maintenance item, you should disinfect your well either annually or semi-annually. Disinfection not only cleans your well, but helps control other factors that can lead to a drop in the production capability of your well. Too much chlorine is bad. Be careful not to add too much as it can lead to greater problems than you already may have.
Test Your Well! Now that you’ve invested your future well-being (wink wink) into your new well…. You need to make sure that you are being responsible and maintaining your well too! We recommend that you check your water at least 1 or 2 times a year for bacteria, nitrates, etc… Having peace of mind and confidence in your water supply is priceless, especially if your residence will have infants drinking the water.
