Two people were swept downstream by flood waters during a storm Monday night in Carr Canyon, according to Cochise County officials.

Shortly after 9 p.m., the Cochise County Sheriff’s Department said it was notified about a man who was knocking on the door at a house in the 2000 block of Carr Canyon Road, south of Sierra Vista. The man was injured, the sheriff's department said.

Deputies and medical personnel went to the house and found a 22-year-old man who had cuts and bruises. He said he was with several people in the lower Carr Canyon campground when he and a 16 year old girl were washed away by a wall of water as they were walking in a stream. He said he didn’t know what happened to the girl, according to the sheriff's department.

Public safety personnel went to the area and located two men who said they were with the man and girl at the lower campground when they were swept away by the flash flood. The two men said they crossed one stream in a truck, but then had to abandon the vehicle and walk to safety.

A DPS helicopter found the girl early Tuesday on the north side of the wash a short distance down from where she had been swept away. Personnel were able to walk her out safely.

She was suffering from a mild case of hypothermia and cuts and bruises, but there were no serious injuries.

The 22-year-old man was taken to a Sierra Vista hospital, but his injuries were not serious.
