PHOENIX — An Arizona corrections officer is in custody for allegedly having sex with a woman while she was in custody and after her release.

Authorities say 26-year-old Stephen Bearden was arrested Monday at his home in Surprise by state Department of Corrections investigators.

He was indicted last month on six counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a person in custody.

The Arizona Republic says the 28-year-old woman named in the indictment was first admitted to the prison in 2008 on identity theft charges.

The indictment says the sex acts occurred between September 2011 and July 31, only five days before Bearden's resignation.

DOC officials say Bearden worked at the state prison complex in Perryville from June 2009 until he resigned in August. It's unclear if he has a lawyer.
