4-year-old boy accidentally kills dad
A 4-year-old boy accidentally shot and killed his father at a Prescott Valley home.
Prescott Valley police say the 35-year-old man and his young son were visiting from Phoenix and were at a friend's house Friday afternoon.
Police say the boy somehow found a gun in the home's living room and accidentally fired it. His father was rushed rushed to a hospital, where he died. Police identified the man as Justin Stanfield Thomas.
Police say the boy is with his mother. No other details have been released.
Smuggling suspects get lost, are rescued
Authorities say 18 people linked to drug smuggling have been rescued from the desert near Gila Bend.
Maricopa County sheriff's deputies and Customs and Border Patrol rescued the people late Friday after a man called 911.
The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office says the man told authorities in Spanish that his group was trying to smuggling in 700 pounds of marijuana and had gotten lost. He told authorities the group had been in the hot desert for five days and without water for three.
Deputies located five people and Border Patrol agents found another 13. The conditions of those found are not known.
The alleged abandoned marijuana has not been located.
Sulfuric acid spill creates health hazard
Federal authorities are closing a road in Superior for a day to clean up illegal dumping of sulfuric acid.
U.S. Bureau of Land Management officials say the dumping was recently discovered near the Battle Axe Road trailhead parking area in Superior.
They say the spill created a public health hazard near the junction of Battle Axe Road and Arizona 177.
Cleanup is expected to be completed by June 15.
BLM officials say an environmental emergency response contactor will remove the contaminated soil and dispose of it at a licensed landfill.
