VICTORVILLE, Calif. — An Arizona man has been sentenced to three years in prison for spraying a sheriff’s deputy in the face with bear repellent during a Southern California desert traffic stop.
Michael Thomas Nolan, 23, of Scottsdale pleaded guilty to assaulting a peace officer, prosecutors say.
He was initially charged with assault with a deadly weapon but reached a plea deal Friday on the lesser charge, The Victorville Daily Press says .
Nolan was stopped by a San Bernardino County sheriff’s deputy in Victorville last month.
A female passenger got out of the vehicle with her hands up, but Nolan sprayed the deputy with the bear repellent and drove away.
Two days later, Nolan was found hiding in a remote desert travel trailer and he was arrested.
