Workers examined the crumbling corners of the historic Marist College building in downtown Tucson this morning.
For the first time in a long time, portions of protective cloth were peeled back to reveal exposed wood beams and brick. The workers then replaced and reinforced the protective fabric.
Earlier this month, the city council proposed spending $1.1 million to stabilize the building, which is owned by the Catholic Diocese of Tucson.
"The current work is just to replace the protective tarps and make sure the roof drainage is working properly, to get through the monsoon season. All of this work is being paid for by the Diocese," Jonathan Mabry, the city's historic preservation officer, said in an email.
