A wildfire burning in the Whetstone Mountains southwest of Benson has grown to about 200 acres.
The lightning-sparked fire began Monday near Cottonwood Peak.
The Cottonwood Fire is burning in grass, brush, oak, juniper and pinyon pine, according to the Coronado National Forest.
Crews will focus on stopping the fire’s westward progress toward Cottonwood Peak. Smoke will be visible on the east side of the mountains as firefighters conduct burns along the ridgetop into Guindani Canyon, forest officials said in a news release.
There are four crews assigned to the fire, along with two engines and two water tenders. A fifth crew is set to join the effort later Wednesday.
Two single-engine air tankers and two helicopters are also being used.
No structures are threatened. No evacuations are ordered.
