A wildfire in far eastern Arizona has prompted the evacuation of an unknown number of homes.

The so-called 6,700-acre Wallow fire is burning 18 miles southwest of Alpine. There is no containment of the fire, which ignited Sunday.

The southern boundary of the area closed is the Mogollon Rim and goes north to Forest Roads 249 and 116. The western side of the closure is the boundaries of the San Carlos Apache and White Mountain Apache Indian Reservations and goes east to Highway 191.

Portions of Greenlee and Apache counties are affected by the closure.

Private property within the closure includes Sprucedale, Beaver Creek Ranch, Beaverhead, Brentwood and residents along Forest Road 26. Hannagan Meadow also was evacuated.
