Seat belts likely saved the lives of a mother and her two teenage children who are injured in a rollover crash along Interstate 10, officials say.

Several emergency calls came in Saturday morning to report that a small sedan collided with the guardrail and rolled off the shoulder and into the dirt near South Kino Parkway.

The vehicle was heavily damaged but the passengers were wearing their seat belts and suffered only minor injuries, Capt. Jeff Langejans, a Tucson Fire Department spokesmn said.

He said 17 firefighters from six units responded to pull the mother and her 16-year-old daughter from the mangled car. The 13-year-old son was outside the car when emergency crews arrived. The family was taken to a Tucson hospital for further evaluation.
