A 21-year-old man hit by a car on Tucson’s south side Monday died Thursday afternoon.

Oscar Rodriguez, was crossing in crosswalk at East Valencia at South Country Club roads just after 10 a.m. when he was struck by a van when the traffic light changed from red to green, Sgt. Maria Hawke, a Tucson police spokeswoman said in a news release.

Rodriguez was in the eastbound lanes of Valencia Road when the light changed and cars in the median and middle lane of traffic stopped for him, however a 2007 Chevy Uplander Van in the curb lane struck Rodriguez as he stepped out from behind a high profile vehicle in the middle lane, the release said.

The driver of the van stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.
