Pima County is working to rebuild the intersection of Silverbell and Sunset roads after Sunday’s storm swept away 300 feet of the road.

Stormwater eroded the embankment along the road and then two pieces of road collapsed, said Dave Cummings, operations division manager for the Pima County transportation department.

A contractor is working to put rock and fill material in the eroded areas, he said. Then the road will need to be rebuilt and repaved.

Cummings said he hopes to have the intersection open by the end of the day Friday, or hopefully sooner.

The intersection typically sees 10,000 cars a day, he said.

Drivers may use Interstate 10 and Ina or Camino del Cerro as alternative routes.
