Arizona Daily Star journalists won 10 first-place awards and several other awards in this year's Arizona Press Club contest.

The awards were announced Saturday in Phoenix.

Here's how Star journalists fared:

FIRST PLACE

• Chiara Bautista, illustration: "Tucson Festival of Books"

• Rhonda Bodfield, Tom Beal, Tim Steller, Josh Brodesky and Howard Fischer, breaking news: "Giffords to resign, forcing 2 elections…."

• Josh Brodesky, column writing.

• Kristen Cook, short-form writing: "A stash of 'staches"

• Kristen Cook, arts writing: "Breaded bliss," "Sex. Religion. Politics. Bacon" and "Cuisines of world converge"

• Johanna Eubank, multimedia package: "Bad girls of Arizona"

• Rob O'Dell and Stephanie Innes, health reporting: "Kids skipping shots increase threat of dangerous outbreak"

• Rob O'Dell, business reporting: "1 in 3 homes here sell for under $100K"

• Dave Ord, news headlines: "An institute for Heyer learning," "Call 'em the Coy-OTs" and "Just swinging in the rain"

• Tim Steller, immigration reporting: "Border Patrol faces little accountability"

SECOND PLACE

• Carol Ann Alaimo, Don Bolles Award for Investigative Reporting, for coverage of Pima Community College

• Josh Brodesky, social issues reporting: CPS

• Darren DaRonco and Rob O'Dell, multimedia package: "Top Tucson salaries"

• Tony Davis, environmental/science reporting, for his work reporting on drought, desert and climate change.

• David Fitzsimmons, column writing

• Ernesto Portillo Jr., Spanish-language commentary in La Estrella de Tucson: "Brewer y la Constitución que tanto quiere … retar"

• Ron Solomon, news headlines: "Wall St. has egg all over its Facebook," "At doom's doorstep" and "If Mint's G-strings stay on, city butts out"
