Church offers panel discussion on border

Casas Adobes Congregational Church is holding a panel discussion on issues involving the U.S.-Mexico border.

The free event will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at the church, 6801 N. Oracle Road.

Panel members will include the Rev. John Dorhauer, Southwest Conference minister of the United Church of Christ; Nogales-based missionary Scott Nicholson; Tona Morales-Calkins, a first-generation Mexican-American; and the Rev. Gilberto Bojorquez, associate minister of Sol de Justicia Presbyterian Church in Nogales, Sonora, Mexico.

Casas Adobes' Ryan Collins will moderate the panel.

TSO to perform tribute to Italy

The Tucson Symphony Orchestra will pay tribute to Italy in a concert at 6:30 p.m. Friday at a northwest-side church.

Guest conductor Ulrich Windfuhr will deliver "Mendelssohn's Italian" as part of an orchestral event at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, 7650 N. Paseo del Norte.

Other pieces in the event will pay tribute to Italy as well.

Tickets start at $49.

Pair of AZ Opera previews are free

The Opera Guild of Southern Arizona is staging a pair of free Arizona Opera preview performances of Mozart's "The Marriage of Figaro" on the northwest side.

The first performance, part of the Guild's Say Hello to Opera series, is at 3 p.m. April 3 at Oro Valley Library, 1305 W. Naranja Ave.

Northwest-siders who miss that performance, or are hungry for an encore, can head to midtown a couple of days later.

There will be another free performance, as part of the Guild's Brown Bag Opera series, at noon April 5 at Grace St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 2331 E. Adams St. Participants can bring their own lunches, and complimentary refreshments will also be offered.

Town seeks to fill commission seats

Oro Valley is accepting applications to fill three vacancies on its Historic Preservation Committee.

To serve on the committee, you must be a resident of the town, be able to attend meetings and complete the town's Community Academy.

The group, which promotes the education, culture and economy of Oro Valley by preserving historic structures, documents and photos, meets at 5 p.m. the first Monday of each month at Oro Valley Town Hall, 11000 N. La Cañada Drive.

Tangerine Crossing art show on weekend

More than 30 artists from around the country will gather to show and sell their work at the Tangerine Crossing Art Festival.

The free event is from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Shoppes at Tangerine Crossing and Fry's Marketplace, 12100 N. Thornydale Road.

Items start at $10, and include paintings, sculptures, glasswork, photography, drawings, jewelry, woodwork and other media.

Free concert by folk artist is March 14

Folk musician Amber Norgaard will perform a free concert at Oro Valley Marketplace at 6 p.m. March 14.

The shopping center is at the southwest corner of North Oracle and East Tangerine roads.

The concert is part of a series offered by the town of Oro Valley and the Southern Arizona Arts and Cultural Alliance.

"SAACA and the town of Oro Valley have been creating diverse ways to bring the arts to the community for over a decade," SAACA Executive Director Kate Marquez said in a news release. "The increasing number of people attending the Oro Valley Concert Series each month has shown us that the public's desire to engage in artistic events is continuing to grow."
