Shop OV campaign begins for summer
Oro Valley has kicked off its Shop Oro Valley Summer Campaign, which runs until July 1.
Shoppers who spend at least $25 at an Oro Valley business during that time will be able to enter into a weekly gift card drawing and for a grand prize drawing to be awarded July 1 for a $500 Oro Valley Marketplace gift card.
To enter the drawing, bring receipts to Oro Valley Town Hall, 11000 N. La Cañada Drive, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
"The Shop Oro Valley Campaign is an important reminder that sales tax is a major source of revenue for the town," Mayor Satish Hiremath said in a news release. "Shopping locally ensures that your money stays in the community, providing funding for public safety, roads, parks and other services which contribute to our quality of life."
'Broken Promises' screening May 25
"Broken Promises", a 70-minute film about 12,000 Navajo people the U.S. government forced to move from their Arizona homeland, will be screened at a church as part of a discussion event.
The free event will be from 4 to 6 p.m. May 25 at Mountain Vista Unitarian Universalist Congregation, 3601 W. Cromwell Drive.
The church shows social justice films the fourth Saturday of each month.
The film describes the relocation, which started in 1970 and continues today, as people are moved off their land for mining exploration. A discussion will follow the film.

Library invites kids to help with mural
Woods Memorial Library is launching a mural project and wants help from youngsters to paint it.
Youths ages 11-18 are invited to paint the mural at the library, 3455 N. First Ave., through May 28.
Branch manager Coni Weatherford said in a news release that the project is meant to encourage youngsters and families to become active in their neighborhood.
"Through our staff's participation as founding members of the Amphi Community Action Group, we spearheaded this project to get people - especially young people - energized about beautifying and unifying Tucson," Weatherford said.
The mural is on the north-facing wall of the library, and was designed by kids who grew up and live in the neighborhood.
The free mural painting workshops go from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursdays through May 28. To register, contact Michael@TucsonArtsBridgade.org via email.
