Handmaker plans Purim dinner, reading

Handmaker Jewish Services for the Aging will celebrate the holiday of Purim with a Persian-themed Masquerade Dinner, followed by a traditional reading of the Scroll of Esther.

The celebration starts at 5 p.m. Feb. 23, 2221 N. Rosemont Blvd.

The cost is $20 for the dinner, but it's free to attend the reading. Dinner reservations are requested.

2-part seminar set on faith, 21st century

The Rev. Fred Plumer will be giving a "A Christian Faith for the 21st Century" two-day seminar 7-9 p.m. Feb. 22 and 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Feb. 23 at the Good Shepherd United Church of Christ, 17750 S. La Cañada Drive in Sahuarita.

Friday evening, Plumer will address: "Everything Changes ... It either evolves or it dies." Saturday morning, the topics will be: "The State of the Christian Church" and "What Seems to be Working?"

Cost for admission is $10 Friday only; $20 Saturday only; $30 single or $50 for two persons to attend both days.

Pima County to open Canoa ranch complex

Pima County is having a ceremony for the opening of the Historic Hacienda de la Canoa at 11 a.m. March 2, 5375 S. Interstate 19 Frontage Road, Green Valley.

U.S. Rep. Raúl Grijalva, who lived on the ranch as a child, will be the keynote speaker.

The event will include the dedication of a bronze plaque commemorating the ranch's listing in the National Register of Historic Places.

'Petite' photo show at CDO on Feb. 27

Canyon del Oro High School photography students will display their work in a show titled "Petite," from 6 to 8 p.m. Feb. 27 at the school, 25 W. Calle Concordia.

Sticking to the "petite" theme, all prints in the show will be 5-by-7-inches or smaller. Sale proceeds from the event will support the school's photography club.
