Block party is tonight on Pennington St.

City High School is hosting the Fifth Annual Pennington Street Block Party from 4 to 7 p.m. today at 48 E. Pennington St.

Enjoy live music, dramatic performances, street art, food trucks, craft vendors and activities for all ages.

The event is designed to showcase and celebrate the ways young people are making a difference in the community.

La Paloma South hosting enroll-a-thon

La Paloma Academy South is hosting Thrills-n-Deals, a spring yard sale and enroll-a-thon Saturday.

The event, at 5660 S. 12th Ave., will run from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. and features a jumping castle, food and music. It is open to the public.

To complete enrollment, bring a copy of the child's birth certificate and immunization records.

Far east side

Hacienda de Milagros yard sale is Saturday

Find bargains at a fundraiser yard sale from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Hacienda de Milagros Assisted Living Home, 10742 E. Avenida Hacienda.

Items for sale include books, movies, CDs, clothes, electronics and stuffed animals. Proceeds from the sale benefit home residents.

Children are focus of church celebration

Families are invited to join a "Celebration of Children" from 10 a.m to noon Sunday at Tanque Verde Lutheran Church, 8625 E. Tanque Verde Road.

Brunch, jumping castles and crafts activities will be available. Children from the congregation will sing during the 9 a.m. service.

Handmaker to host youth volunteer day

Youths ages 11-18 are invited to take part in the J-Serve Volunteer Day starting at 2 p.m. Sunday at Handmaker Jewish Services for the Aging, 2221 N. Rosemont Blvd.

After taking part in activities with Handmaker residents, participants will pack food boxes for the Hands for Hunger program and clean books to be donated to Homer Davis Elementary School.

Anti-bullying lecture is open to the public

The public is invited to attend a free "Step Up, Speak Out, End Bullying" event from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Loft Cinema, 3233 E. Speedway Blvd.

Students, parents, teachers and other community members will showcase their 30-second public-service announcements themed "Bystander Empowerment," part of an ongoing project to end bullying. The event is sponsored by Tucson's Fund for Civility, Respect and Understanding as well as the Pima County Attorney's Office and Cox Communications.

A raffle for an iPad will be held and T-shirts will be given to the first 300 youths.

Private school holds open house Sunday

The Abbie Loveland Tuller School is holding an open house from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday for prospective kindergarten through eighth-graders. Tuller, at 5870 E. 14th St., is a private Episcopal school.

A second open house is scheduled for 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on May 11.
